Artists of Read’s Artspace
This former department store located in the heart of downtown has the distinction of being the sole artist live/work space in the city. Home to more than 30 artists working in a variety of mediums including visual arts, music, writing and theater, Read’s has served as a hub for residents to create and exhibit their work since 2005. In addition to Gallery shows, art is featured in the common spaces throughout the building. Hours by appointment.

Thursday, November 7
5:30 PM - 9:00 PM | Event: Light /Projection Art
The BAT brings back a popular favorite. Dustin De Millio lights up Peacock Alley outside Read’s ArtSpace #12 projecting a montage of local art and music videos and his signature free form digital magic. Light and projection installation sponsored by City Lights/Bridgeport Art Trail.
5:30 PM - 9:30 PM | Bridgeport Art Trail Kick Off Party
Party with us as we kick off the Art Trail with our new exhibit, ”About Time” featuring an array of work by Read’s resident and guest artists whose art highlights a variety of mediums. Savor delectable appetizers and cool refreshments while enjoying the musical explorations of Chris Cavaliere, Musician & Songwriter, as he takes you on a sonic journey with his guitar. Revel in art and one another as friends, neighbors and fellow art aficionados gather at this lively annual event. Entrance on Broad Street. Reminder: Do NOT Park in the private lot.

5:30 PM - 9:30 PM / UFOlogist Albert K. Bender Info Session with artist MIA
WW2 Air Force Veteran and Bridgeport Resident established the International Flying Saucer Bureau in Bridgeport on Broad Street in 1951 and publishes Space Review Magazine. He initiated the first World Contact Day on March 15, 1953 which was followed by visitations from the infamous Men in Black right here on Broad Street. Learn more about this fascinating man and his explorations into the unknown with MIA in this intriguing session and includes interactive artwork by MIA.

Observe the process as MIA and other resident artists create new work during this live painting session. Always intriguing to see what develops on the canvas in the moment.
6:00 PM - 10:00 PM | Lyrical Voices Night of Poetry and Arts
For over twenty years, Lyrical Voices Night of Poetry and Arts has been the home of poets from Bridgeport and those who travel here to share in this brave space. It is created and hosted by Shanna T. Melton with the assistance and sounds of DJ Buddha LuvJonz. The open mic is focused on poetry and welcomes all art forms. It is a time and space for self expression. Meet us at the mic on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 6pm-10pm in the gallery at Read’s ArtSpace.
