Artists of Read’s Artspace
This former department store located in the heart of downtown has the distinction of being the sole artist live/work space in the city. Home to more than 30 artists working in a variety of mediums including visual arts, music, writing and theater, Read’s has served as a hub for residents to create and exhibit their work since 2005. In addition to Gallery shows, art is featured in the common spaces throughout the building. Hours by appointment.

It’s an Art Trail tradition! Join us at the Read’s Ground Floor Gallery for the annual Kick Off Party as we celebrate the opening of “(Re)Solve: Artists Choose Artists.” This dynamic exhibition highlights an exciting mix of works by resident and guest artists. Enjoy delicious appetizers, cool refreshments, and the energy of friends, neighbors, and fellow art lovers. Be part of this beloved tradition where the Art Trail begins with community, creativity, and celebration!

6:00 PM - 8:00 PM | Resilient Roots - Open Circle Poetry & Spoken Word Workshop
Resilient Roots is an open circle poetry and spoken word workshop led by poet Shanna Melton that invites participants to find language for the times we are living in. Through meditation, guided word prompts, and writing exercises, participants will create poetry that speaks to personal truth while addressing the collective challenges of the present moment. The session culminates with opportunities to share work aloud, inviting call-and-response reflection that deepens connection and cultivates our shared humanity amidst divisiveness and fear. Seating is limited to 15-20 participants. This is a free event, with donations encouraged and appreciated.

Lyrical Voices presents A Night of Poetry & Arts—a beloved creative home in Bridgeport for over twenty years—and welcomes artists and audiences into a space filled with rhythm, reflection, laughter, and community. Founded and hosted by Shanna T. Melton with the musical energy of DJ Buddha LuvJonz, the event blends spoken word, music, and visual art into a visceral, connective experience. From Broadway performers to local voices, all who step onto the open mic are celebrated with equal love and respect. Come share, listen, and be inspired.
