Marking its 20th anniversary, Bridgeport’s legendary CITY LIGHTS GALLERY is bringing its signature project, the Bridgeport Art Trail, to a pop-up gallery at 84 Main Street, New Canaan.

20 Exhibiting Artists for 20 Years:

“Sensory Overload” is a sampler exhibit showcasing some of the most dynamic artwork made by artists of the Bridgeport Art Trail (BAT). The BAT is a city-wide open studio arts celebration, taking place every November. An eclectic and diverse collection of art, made with a variety of materials, represents Greater Bridgeport. Changing art exhibits in the gallery space and in the community present the full spectrum of visual expression from artists of different abilities and levels of training and success, representing relevant content. 

Work Opportunities: Programs and promotion provide work opportunities for local artists and creative entrepreneurs and raise awareness of Bridgeport’s creative potential.

The Bridgeport Art Trail is a city-wide open studio arts celebration attracting 7000 attendees from the region, marking 15 years in 2023.

Greater Bridgeport Pride celebration, began by annually producing the first Queer art exhibit in CT, “OUTwork” exhibit marks 14 years in 2024.

Schools Programs that enrich the learning experience for young people, reaching several thousands in the Bridgeport and Fairfield schools.

The Bridgeport Film Fest, City Lights & Company is the fiduciary partner, sponsoring an annual award for a young outstanding filmmaker.

About City Lights/Bridgeport Art Trail (CL/BAT):

The hotspot for the arts in Bridgeport since 2004, City Lights maintains a gallery space in downtown Bridgeport bringing together people from different backgrounds for a shared cultural exchange, representing the rich diversity of greater Bridgeport.

The host organization, City Lights & Company, also known as City Lights/Bridgeport Art Trail (CL/BAT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, acting as an arts advocate and incubator, serving the community through art, initiating and producing free annual events, supporting public art projects, workshops and performances. It produces the following.

“This project is a cross county social experiment, bringing people of diverse backgrounds together through art. Through this satellite Pop Up space, we are creating a physical presence of Bridgeport arts and culture in downtown New Canaan,” says executive director of City Lights/Bridgeport Art Trail, Suzanne Kachmar. Why bring the Bridgeport Art Trail to New Canaan? The goal is to bridge the cross-county divide, to introduce Bridgeport arts and culture to the New Canaan community and provide opportunities for Bridgeport area artists and organizations.
